(3 out of 5) Roll Pin Creep
by from Wasilla, AK on

First S&W product. Shoots without failure. Meh trigger but better than the original Shield. But I had a roll pin and a solid pin in the trigger working their way out every 300 rounds and have to tap back in with a punch. Eventually going to sell, then go back to my first love Springfield, then Glock. I also don't feel that the fit and finish is as nice as the competition in the same price range.

(4 out of 5) Love the pistol but has quality issue with trigger pin
by from Wilminton, NC on

Love the way the pistol shoots, but after 175 rounds, the pin on the trigger safety creeped out. Not a good sign for a first-time owner. Had to send it to S&W for repairs 8-10 weeks!!! Not happy.

(4 out of 5) Magazine release protrudes too far out from grip.
by from Jamestown, KY on

I finally received my new Shield Plus OR ready pistol late yesterday and having owned and carried many S&W handguns, including revolvers and semiautos, I must say I was a little disappointed with a couple of things on the new Shield Plus. Being a retired 30 year LEO that carried numerous S&W revolvers and pistols for about 27 of my 30 year career, as well as my CCW for the past 10 years since retirement, I feel qualified to say that the extent the magazine release button protrudes out from the side of the grip is concerning to me. I've carried a 1st Gen Shield as my CCW for about 10 years and have loved it. I'm not one of those guys that think I need to carry 40-50 rounds of ammo around with me for my CCW. I never carry an extra magazine on my person, but usually do keep a spare in my vehicle. I was comfortable with the 8+1 that my 1st Gen held. However when Smith came out with the Plus model with 13+1 capacity I knew I was destined to own one. I read numerous articles and many reviews about it before placing my order. Never actually held one in hand until yesterday though. I opened the box and the first thing I noticed was that the stippling on the grip was a little more aggressive than I had anticipated after reading that it had been toned down from the M 2.0 series pistols. I was expecting more of a middle-ground between my 1st Gen Shield and the 2.0 series. Toned down, but not hardly enough for my preference. Its still going to rub the hide off if you dont have something between it and your skin. But I can live with it, and it does indeed provide a good non-slip grip. But honestly Id rather have the smoother grip that's on my 1st Gen Shield. The second thing that I'm much more concerned about is the extent to which the magazine release button on the Plus model extends out from the grip as compared to my 1st Gen model. This was immediately apparent to me as soon as I picked it up out of the box. I have a real concern that the button can and will be inadvertently depressed enough during normal concealed carry to unseat the magazine without your knowing it until you pull the gun out and the mag drops out of it. The pistol goes down inside my leather CCW holster far enough that about half of the release button is inside the leather and the other half isn't. Just putting a small amount of pressure on the leather around the area of the release unseats the magazine. My 1st Gen Shield release button doesn't extend nearly as far out from the side of the grip as this one, and the button is also angled more making it more contoured with the grips. I showed it to a couple of my friends today without saying anything about the mag release button to see if they picked up on it or if it was just me, and both noticed it right off with no prompting from me. Other than that, I really like the pistol.
